The Problem
With online sales predicted to grow almost 60% over the next three years, retailers need to find ways to cut labor cost and improve customer satisfaction with delivery process. Research Report also found that the shopping habits of consumers have shifted from traditional retail to online shopping. (Sources: http://fortune.com/2016/06/08/online-shopping-increases/). This has sufficiently increased the labor cost for delivery, making repeated trips for unattended package delivery and unpredictable work load for building managements to manage deliveries of small packages. This does not only impact the cost but also the level of customer satisfaction on the delivery process. Moreover, the retailers need more options for returns and after sales services.
From an interview of a renown real estate software and data provider, it was revealed that 70% of staff’s time are used to process delivery packages for residents. All packages are placed inside storage rooms and residents can only pick them up during office hours. For senior homes, medications might be missed if the residents are not there.
